FHI 360 is currently seeking 4 qualified candidates for the temporary positions of the LINKAGES HIV Lay Counselors; for the USAID-funded project, Linkages across the Continuum of HIV Services for Key Populations Affected by HIV (LINKAGES), under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program in Botswana.
The HIV Lay Counselors will be part of an active team mobilizing key populations (female sex workers and men who have sex with men) within their designated districts to access friendly, non-judgmental, supportive HTC and ART services. The Lay Counselors will work with partner organizations to provide HIV counseling and testing services, which will require working a flexible schedule including late hours or on weekends.
To help implement this project in Botswana, FHI 360 is seeking motivated and suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following roles:
HIV LAY COUNSELORS (4) - TEMPORARY CONTRACT
Duration : Four (4) Months, June – Sepetember 2016
Location: : Gaborone, Francistown, Selebi-Phikwe and/or Maun
Requirements
Position Responsibilities
- Provide confidential voluntary HIV testing services within the district(s), in coordination with KP partners
- Ensure adequate records are kept and participate in active referrals to BOFWA for those testing positive.
- Provide good quality, non-judgmental pre-and post-test counseling
- Supports Adherence and Risk Reduction Counseling for individual clients and build the capacity of peer outreach workers in adherence counseling
- Help ensure program targets are met for LINKAGES partners by collaborating with program and partner staff to follow up KPs in need of testing and provide service at times and locations convenient to them.
- Maintain QA standards of HTC as per national guidelines
Required Skills and Experience:
- Advanced Certificate in Counseling and HIV/AIDS Testing Level Three from an accredited training course (i.e. Tebelopele, Ministry of Health)
- A minimum of three months experience in offering testing and counseling services.
- Experience in providing adherence counseling for PLWHA
- Sensitivity to KP issues including willingness to combat stigma and discrimination, and open and non-judgmental attitude
- Ability to meet deadlines with strong attention to consistency, detail, and quality.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Strong consultative and negotiation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Setswana
- Ability to travel within country
- Must be flexible to work after hours and/or on weekends as needed.
