The Youth Division (YTH) of the Commonwealth Secretariat works with member governments, youth leaders and youth professionals to promote the development and empowerment of the 1.2 billion young people who make up over 60% of our population. The newly formed Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) team is an important component of YTH, promoting the use of sport and physical activity as a strategic and effective tool in delivering development and peace outcomes.
As Head of SDP and a member of the YTH leadership team, you will help to set strategy, oversee the delivery of projects including the Commonwealth Sport Ministers Meeting (CSMM), and manage the provision of technical assistance to member countries in SDP policy analysis, action planning, monitoring and evaluation. You are responsible for managing key relationships with external stakeholders including the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS), the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), UN bodies (especially UNOSDP) and relevant inter-governmental bodies (including AU and CARICOM). You will also supervise the two other members of the SDP team.
To be considered for the role you must have a Bachelor’s and/or Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as sport, sport for development, youth development or international development; and sound knowledge and experience in SDP. This must be demonstrated by at least ten years’ experience in delivering sport, development or peace-building projects, including three plus years’ experience in leading national SDP programmes or partnerships. Also, your background will include at least ten years’ spent working in or with governments, inter-governmental or international NGOs, where you gained expertise in government policy development and impact evaluation.
