SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL is a French humanitarian organization which provides aid and assistance to victims of war or natural disaster. For over 30 years the association has focused on meeting three vital needs – water, food and shelter – by carrying out emergency programs followed by longer-term reconstruction projects. Whilst fully respecting the assisted populations’ customs and culture, SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL’s programs are implemented through the joint expertise of around 180 expatriates and 1500 local managerial staff and employees. SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL is currently present in Africa (Central African Republic, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Mali, Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire), in Asia (Afghanistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines) in Haiti and in the Middle-East (Lebanon, Syria, Iraq).
MISSION
The WASH Coordinator, as technical advisor on the mission, contributes to the development of Solidarités International’s strategy by developing and proposing sector-based strategies in the field of water supply, hygiene and sanitation.
He/she is the guarantor of the quality and suitability of proposed programs and ensures the appropriateness between SI’s activities, general objectives and needs of the population.
He/she coordinates the project cycle and more particularly the operational monitoring of WASH programs implemented in the country of assignment.
He/she contributes to the process of capitalization and the improvement of Solidarités International’s WASH methods and techniques.
PROFILE
Education:Must have a university level degree, preferably a Master degree in Water Sanitation and Hygiene related sector, Engineering, Environment and/or Geology
Experience:
– Minimum 3 years professional work experience in a coordinator role in managing teams (including by remote control) + specific WASH experience + experience in emergency context.
– Significant previous experiences in emergency context
– Experience in conducting technical assessment and project evaluation
– Previous work experience in an English-speaking environment

General technical skills and knowledge:
– WASH programming experience
– Team management,
– Representation and participation to clusters & working groups
– Proven ability in report and proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, strategic thinking,

Specific aspects of the position:
– Ability to spend more than 50% of his/her time in the field as the position requires frequent travel to the bases,
– Technical knowledge on latrines building, emergency response, sludge treatment systems, cholera response, etc.
– Experience into social water management, participatory methods and mobilisation in tensed community context.

Languages:Fluent English and/or French
CONDITIONS
Salaried post: According to experience starting from 2000 euros gross per month, plus 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly, and a monthly Per Diem.
Possibility of a family package, including plane tickets, insurance, housing contribution, full spousal Per Diem and 50% Per Diem for each child.
Solidarités International will cover accommodation and travel expenses from the expatriate’s home country to the site of the assignment.
– Social and medical cover: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which reimburses all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
– Vacation: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of one break every three months. For a one-year assignment, the expatriate will have a 7-day break during the 3rd and the 9th month (with 500 euros allocated by Solidarités). He or she will also be entitled to go back to his or her home country for a 14-day period after six months spent on the mission (Solidarités will cover travel costs).
