Volunteer Position – Organizational Development Advisor (Communications and Marketing)
World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a leading Canadian international development organization which has been in Botswana since 1980, strengthening the capacity of local organizations, government departments as well as individuals in their efforts to contribute more effectively to the economic and social welfare of the population. Through the USAID-funded Maatla Project, WUSC is helping to strengthen the organizational capacities of the national NGOS and networks in the HIV sector, namely, BOCONGO, BONASO, BOCAIP and BONEPWA+. WUSC seeking an Organizational Development Advisor to assist these NGOs in Communications and Marketing.
Under the supervision of the Organizational Development Manager and based in Gaborone, the position is for 12 months with possible extension, dependent on project funding. Volunteer Advisors are not paid a salary, but rather receive a Monthly Living Allowance that will help provide basic accommodations and living sustenance.
Expected results:
1)Increased skills and knowledge in communications, marketing, documentation and dissemination, branding and networking in the 4 network organizations.
2)Improved public relations profile for the four organizations, as measured by an increasing number of effective communications materials to improve their marketing of services, stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
Principal responsibilities:
1)Support all 4 organizations in the processes and activities involved in Communications by assisting them with their needs as they request assistance.
2)Provide basic or advanced training (as appropriate) for officers in need of Communications training and/or coaching (as requested) based on their positions within the organization
3)Assist each organization to identify target audiences, methods and issues, and building up strategies and messages for communication at different levels.
4)Build capacity of one or more individuals within each host organization to continue this work.
Description of ideal candidate:
-Professional skills: marketing and communications, public relations, graphic design, short-term technical support experience, etc.
Personal aptitudes, including language requirements as applicable: aptitudes as a trainer and/or coach; ability to balance the needs and demands of multiple stakeholders; ability to assess situations quickly and make considered contributions; etc.
Education and professional experience:
-degree or diploma related to marketing, communications, branding, public relations, policy etc, NGO Management or related field, and at least five years of experience in communications.
