Senior Researcher - Climate Change and Extreme Weather Events Risk Analysis
Main purpose of the job:
• Weather and climate data analysis for trend and extreme events detection
• Review tools for weather and climate variability modeling and decision making under uncertainty
• Develop methods to target interventions for weather and climate stress under uncertainty
• Develop and contribute to methodologies to forecast the impact of research for development outcomes and impacts
• Conduct impact projections and develop targeting recommendations for research on weather and climate dynamics and their association with performance of various sectors within the economy
• Using value of information analysis, identify further research needs and important metrics for impact assessment
• Write policy briefs
• Develop research concept notes and proposals for seeking external research funding
Education:
• A PhD in meteorology or Atmospheric sciences or applied mathematics (in weather and climate analysis) is required.
Experience and working knowledge:
• At least 10 years work experience in weather and climate data time series analysis environment
• Excellent quantitative analysis skills, good understanding of Bayesian networks, Monte Cairo simulation and other approaches to modeling under uncertainty. An appreciation of the human dimensions of climate variability and change will be an added advantage.
Remuneration
BITRI offers attractive working conditions and remuneration commensurate with qualifications and experience. The above posts are for five years fixed term contracts.
