The post is located in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (CdI). The incumbent will report to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Representative, Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN), and work under the direct supervision of Regional Programme Coordinator for the West Africa Coast Initiative (WACI) and of the Regional Coordinator Container Control (CCP), in close consultation with the Programme Manager Sahel Programme (Sahel). The incumbent will be responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the projects WACI and CCP in CdI, in collaboration with the national authorities and UNODC’s international partners. Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in the fields of criminology, law, public administration or related fields is required. A first-level university degree or equivalent academic training/education with certification from a recognized international/national police, customs, or other staff training institution, with specialization in criminal justice, crime prevention or law enforcement, in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant progressively responsible work experience in an operational capacity, in national and/or international law enforcement, investigation, police, drug and/or crime prevention, border management and control is required, out of which at least four years in the field of drug law enforcement and organized crime. Project/programme planning and management experience in relevant field at the national or international level is required. Team-leading experience is highly desirable. Experience in a UN field office in a developing country, preferably in West Africa, is desirable. Experience in delivering training with practical experience in both classroom and on-site is desirable. General knowledge and practice on the UN financial and administrative rules are an advantage.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised fluency in English and in French i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
