ADVERTISEMENT: VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 40 OF 2014 – SENIOR ROADS ENGINEER (INTERNAL)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Local Authorities employees for the above mentioned post tenable in North West District Council-Okavango Sub District Council.
SALARY: D4 (P165300- P182496) per annum.
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum.
BENEFITS: Contributory Pension Scheme (Govt pays 15% employee pays 5%).
Optional Medical Aid Scheme (Govt pays 50% employee pays 50%).
QUALIFICATION: Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Officer must have served for a minimum of six (6) years of work experience, and 2 years of satisfactory performance as Roads Engineer I.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
• To supervise the design, construction and maintenance of roads to ensure that they done in accordance with set standards.
DUTIES
• Identifies new development projects as well as major rehabilitation /upgrading of road works, and compile all required data and information necessary for the purposes of preparing a draft detailed design.
• Oversees project development to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget by establishing and advising on any deviations or possible cost overruns and suggest measures to curb any of these issues.
• Reviews draft preliminary design report, specifications and tender documents to finalize the draft detailed design, drawings and tender documents.
• Supervises and guides and monitors the preparation of preliminary designs to ensure a cost effective project design.
• Prepares cost estimates and schedules for development and maintenance projects to enable preliminary evaluation of tenders for both construction and consultancy service tenders by analyzing submissions.
• Undertakes any other related duties as directed by management.
