  • Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Conference Services Section, (CSS), Division of Administration of the Economic Commission for Africa. The intern will work under the overall supervision of
the Chief/OIC of the Section and the direct supervision of the Chief, Conference Interpretation & Finance Unit (CIFU). The internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension depending on the needs of the Section under the supervision of a designated staff in the unit.
Responsibilities
Depending on their level of experience and training, interns will accomplish the following:
  • Assist in preparation of invoices and covering letters;
  • Assist in the follow-up of collections to the Center;
  • Assist in filing, copying and delivering of documents;
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and capture raw data; and
  • Perform other duties required in the daily operations of the Planning Sub-Unit.

Education
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  • and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
  • English and French are the official working language of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in English (both written and verbal skills) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN Language is an asset.
