Background / General description
The World Bank Group (WBG or the Group) is one of the world's largest sources of funding and knowledge for development solutions. The WBG consists of five specialized institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), as a part of the World Bank Group, enhances the flow of capital and technology to developing countries by providing credit enhancement and investment insurance against non-commercial risks in developing countries. MIGA has a strategic focus to support investments in IDA countries and into Fragile and Conflict Affected Situations (FCS). MIGA's Regional Head for Africa (Africa Head) will be responsible for originating new business opportunities for MIGA in Africa with a specific focus on IDA and FCS, as well as for supporting the implementation of the Conflict Affected and Fragile States Facility ('CAFEF') to support investments in FCS. The Africa Head will research these markets, conduct outreach to new clients investing in these areas, follow-up on projects that would be eligible for MIGA support, and provide overall quality assurance for work produced by the Africa region team.
The Africa Head will be responsible for bringing in new applications for MIGA and screening them for eligibility. The work of the Africa Head involves frequent interaction and relationship management with senior management at the World Bank and IFC as well as top government officials in Africa and equivalent contacts in other international organizations and private sector companies and financial institutions that are clients or potential clients of MIGA.
This position will report to MIGA's Director for Operations (MIGOP) and work closely with MIGA's hubs in Asia and Europe, particularly as regards inward investments into Africa. MIGA is looking for a seasoned professional who combines technical expertise in political risk insurance (PRI) and finance as well as management experience, along with a comprehensive understanding of Africa and the role of international development assistance in the Region. Ideally, the candidate will have a wide network of relationships in the pan-African private and public sectors.
