Parts Specialist
The role
Sandvik Mining South Africa requires a Parts Specialist to ensure the continuity of a class-leading spares parts supply offering to Southern African customers. The Parts Specialist is responsible for determining an inventory holding that optimises customer expectations and Sandvik net working capital.
Key performance areas
The Parts Specialist has experience in what spare parts are consumed by various Sandvik machines throughout their life cycle and is familiar with the local and global organisational resources that can provide important complementary input to the decision process. The Parts Specialist manages the Strategic Stock Request process which ensures that spare parts are available in country as and when new machine models are introduced. The Parts Specialist also provides essential input into the management and reduction of obsolete and redundant stock and will advise the Business Line Manager – Parts on what changes to make to stocking levels to improve the general health of the spare parts inventory. To be effective in inventory management, the Parts Specialist requires a familiarity with the supply chain and distribution service processes and a good understanding of inventory control principles.
The Parts Specialist is also the local steward for the Installed Unit Database and is accountable for the accuracy of the database. Furthermore, the Parts Specialist is able to query the Installed Unit Database and identify opportunities to improve market share or service levels to customers. The Parts Specialist should expect to be consulted and involved in ad hoc initiatives as and when required. The Parts Specialist does not have regular customer interaction but is expected to meet with customers in order to gain specific market intelligence as and when required.
Your profile
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
- The Parts Specialist will need to have better than average Excel skills to manipulate and extract useful information from various databases.
- The incumbant will also need to be familiar with Aurora and PICS to provide them first-hand access to system information.
- Not all answers will be held within the various computer systems and the Parts Specialist must establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of functions within the organisation to be effective and thus requires good communication skills complemented with an approachable personality.
