Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), an independent office reporting to the Secretary-General and the General Assembly. OIOS adds value by providing world-wide audit, investigation, inspection, programme monitoring and evaluation services to all bodies affiliated with the United Nations Secretariat. The Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG) supports the USG and ASG in the fulfillment of their responsibilities for executive direction and management of OIOS.
The internship, based in New York City, is UNPAID and full-time. The internship is for a minimum duration of 2 months and can be extended up to 6 months, working five days per week under the supervision of a chief of unit in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the OUSG and working closely with the team, the intern will be expected to 1) undertake research and analysis in areas related to OIOS' policies, functions and outputs; 2) support the OIOS' initiatives and special events such as the 20th anniversary celebration of OIOS; 3) assist in drafting and preparing the OIOS Annual Report; 4) provide administrative support for daily office operations; and 5) perform other duties as required.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, they must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree;
(c) Enrollment in a graduate school programme in business, public administration, social sciences or a related field, is desirable;
(d) be computer literate in standard software applications;
(e) have a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
(f) have a demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
