Standard Bank's Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) division offers its clients banking, trading, investment, risk management and advisory services to connect selected emerging markets to Africa and to each other. It has specific global sectoral expertise, particularly in natural resources, with value propositions in: mining and metals; oil and gas; power and infrastructure; and telecoms and media.
Job Purpose:
- To be responsible for the development and implementation of the Client Coverage and sector Marketing / Communication strategy and plan, which delivers and supports the Client Coverage business.
- Key focus on Mining and Metals, Oil and Gas, Power and Infrastructure as well as Financial Institutions
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement integrated marketing and communication strategies for Client Coverage and Sectors which supports the business unit strategy.
- Ensure that the Client Coverage and Sectors marketing activities contribute to the CIB Strategy and continuously drive proofs of Client Coverage capabilities.
- Ensure alignment of marketing activities across BU areas which optimise cross-sell opportunities.
- Ensure Client Coverage and Sector marketing strategies/activities are driven across geographies.
- Ensures that the Client Coverage and Sector Marketing Strategy plans are aligned to and part of the Standard Bank brand strategy, policy, standards and guidelines
- Drive Client Coverage and Sector marketing activities that proactively leverage market impact opportunities;
- Accountable and responsible for the development, implementation, approval and monitoring of advertising and media projects (channel strategy), ensuring that it highlights CIB capabilities.
- Ensure that all advertising and media complies with the marketing and advertising codes of practice, banking regulations and codes of practices
- Drive strategic input into global CIB media plans ensuring that Standard Bank’s capabilities are leveraged in appropriate media across key markets.
- Assist in the formulation and development of internal and external communication strategies.
- Develop and manage key client hospitality/eventing in support of building deeper client relationships.
- Develop a plan to select and manage relevant conferences that will drive awareness of our offering (capabilities and expertise) and provide key networking opportunities for the business.
- Drive strategic input into the CIB digital and Social media strategies and utilisation thereof to demonstrate sector capability.
- Commission appropriate research, through the Strategic Insights team, to develop relevant client /sector insights to give direction to Marketing and Communications Strategy and manage insight gathering across CIB.
- Monitor relevant competitor activity at sector level and take appropriate action if required
- Ensure where appropriate that in-country CIB marketing teams effectively leverages off opportunities created by Client Coverage / Sector marketing at the centre; advertising, sponsorships/conferences and/or key events, media relations
- Develops and maintains effective and mutually beneficial relationships with Client Coverage SA Manco & Global/Country Coverage and Sector Heads
- Develop and maintain effective and mutually beneficial relationships with CIB country marketing managers and in-country marketing teams.
- Develops and maintains mutually beneficial and effective relationships with Group Marketing and Communication specialists teams in order to effect agreed plans
- Develop and maintains mutually beneficial and effective relationships with creative, media, digital, eventing and communications agencies.
- Effectively manage across the BU’s when required and support various product marketing initiatives from time to time.
Key Performance Measures:
- Effective development and implementation of the Client Coverage/Sector Marketing plans in line with business objectives.
- Sound and effective relationships with Manco, Client Coverage and Sector Heads, Group Marketing and Communications, as well as other Standard Bank business units and Marketing teams (e.g. CIB broader team, and in-country teams)
Desired Skills and Experience
Preferred Qualification and Experience:
- Post graduation qualification in Marketing.
- 10 years’ experience in Marketing
- Proven track record is essential
- Experience in B2B marketing
- Experience in working in Africa and Emerging markets
Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise:

- Understanding of the Corporate and Investment Banking business
