The Business Development Manager will provide support and leadership in the implementation of the inorganic growth strategy of GE across Sub Saharan Africa, including strategic evaluation of acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures and other business development opportunities as well as execution of due diligence, financial analysis and assistance in negotiation of agreements. Role will be based out of South Africa or Nigeria. | |
The role requires working directly with the Director of Business Development - Africa, and the GE business leadership teams to: • Identify partnership, acquisition, and divestiture opportunities with various private and public sector institutions, investment banks, and PE’s that are applicable across the GE portfolio. • Rapidly understand the challenges and opportunities facing GE and constructively add to the dialogue and debate on the deal/project team • Define and lead GE engagement strategy and approach to various Sub Saharan African markets recommending and executing on initiatives and transactions to grow overall market presence • Leads various phases of the transaction process including analysis of inorganic strategy and markets, target identification and screening, structuring, valuation, due diligence, negotiation and closing • Supports prioritization of regional market segment requirements, performs gap analysis to business unit portfolio, and defines strategic and tactical steps to best position segment for accelerated growth • Works with BD leadership to manage communication and alignment with key internal stakeholders to support effective decision making and transaction approval processes • Work closely with BD Leader and the Finance organization on all M&A-related financial issues including valuation, deal structuring and accounting issues • Act as one of GE's representatives in dealing with external parties such as investment banks, legal firms, consultants, accountants, etc. | |
• MBA or other Master’s degree • Minimum of five years of relevant business development experience in the areas of mergers and acquisitions , licensing, divestitures, joint ventures in a corporate, investment banking, or consulting environment • Working experience supporting and / or leading certain elements of the transaction process including: analyzing strategy and markets, identifying and screening targets, structuring, valuation, due diligence, negotiation and closing • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Demonstrated aptitude for both managing and prioritizing multiple projects and initiatives • Team leadership and facilitation skills in a matrix organization and interacting with senior executives • Strong problem solving skills • Clear thinking: Some experience simplifying strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions with speed and accuracy based on best available information, and communicating priorities clearly and concisely • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high ethical, moral, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others • Adaptable/Flexible: Open to change in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations | |
• Intellectual rigor and strong analytical skills • African region experience and expertise • Project management expertise • MBA and strong background in corporate finance, consulting, and M&A • Strong interpersonal skills in order to build relationships and work with a variety of constituencies within GE • Possess strong oral and written presentation skills • External focus: Understanding customer needs, marketplace dynamics, industry trends, and the competitive landscape in the industry/function and considering the external impact of business activities and decisions on the external environment |
