Duties and Resposibilities
- Recommends and incorporates costs saving initiatives into budget and controls expenditure within approved parameters
- Administer tests as follows:
- Admissions
- Standardized attainment in order to establish reading, maths and spelling ages
- Draws up yearly, termly, and weekly plans of subject matter by:
- complying with school subject policies
- Referring to the syllabus
- Deciding on order of presentation and suitable time allocation of various topics
- Prepares individual lesson plans to achieve the desired objectives taking cognizance of available resources and equipment by:
- Determining knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes to be learnt through consultation of the syllabus and research material
- Deciding on the most suitable teaching methodology
- Providing suitable teaching aids/materials. E.g. audio, visual arts, instruments, tools, etc.
- Provides an effective and stimulating environment for education by:
- Maintaining teaching area in a neat, orderly condition.
- Renewing display regularly to support current learning activities
- Optimal use of remedial equipment and material
- Researches the market to keep abreast with industry best practices in the field of remedial education
- Complies with all legal requirements pertaining to the teaching profession, e.g. marking the attendance register, responsibility for the safety of the children placed within his/her care, etc.
- Continuous assesses records and appraises children's progress
- Observes referred children to see progress in the classroom during class visits
- Remediates individual pupils with learning difficulties
- Facilitate peer-teacher training sessions to up-skill teachers on basic remediation skills.
- Refers children to allied specialists foe further assessment
- Perform array of administrative duties including but not limited to;
- Conduct phase meetings termly to discuss testing and pupil's progress
- Interviews and advices parents of pupil's recommended for therapy
- Keeps accurate records and inventory of remedial equipment
- Keeps children's progress reports for ease of reference, feedback and further referrals.
- Promotes reading, care and appreciation for books though activities such as a book display and demonstrations
- Implements safety, health, and environment programmes in the area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements.Qualifications and Requirements
- Remedial Education Diploma or bachelor of Education in special needs
- Two years post graduate experience in teaching
- 2 years in an English medium environment will be an added advantage
