WorldFish is seeking a Productivity Scientist for the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems (AAS).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead new country and cross-country research on sustainable productivity within the CGIAR Research Program (CRP) on Aquatic Agricultural Systems (AAS).
- Strengthen the participatory action research (PAR) approach to AAS productivity research.
- To support AAS country program teams, communities and stakeholders in the planning, design and implementation of AAS productivity research. The initial focus will be in Bangladesh (60-70%), but collaboration will be expected with AAS elsewhere in Africa, Asia and the Pacific (30-40%).
- Provide scientific mentoring and advice to AAS country teams and stakeholders in the planning, implementation and writing up of research papers and other science products.
- Synthesis cross-country learning associated with AAS productivity research, PAR and engage in quality scientific writing to synthesize such learning
- Maintain dialogue with AAS partners and build productive and enabling linkages among NARS, CGIAR centers, public and private sector stakeholders to increase learning, development outcomes and impact from AAS productivity research
- Advance understanding of the impact and roles of AAS productivity improvement in achieving CGIAR intermediate development outcomes and sustainably meeting food, nutrition and poverty reduction
- Maintain productive relations with donors and partners to mobilize resources in support of the AAS research in development agenda
Skill Requirements:
Essential
- Ph.D in aquatic or agriculture systems or related field;
- At least 5 years research experience in aquatic or agricultural research and development in Asia;
- Experience of interacting with national, regional and international R and D practitioners and policy makers;
- Excellent knowledge of systems productivity in aquatic and/or agricultural systems
- Strong research and writing skills
- Excellent science skills
- Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English;
Desired
- Fieldwork experience with AAS systems in Asia, Africa or the Pacific
- Project development and resource mobilization skills.
- Strong professional networks in the field of AAS research
- Strong understanding of cross-sectoral linkages of AAS with food security, nutrition and poverty reduction
This international position will be based at the WorldFish project office in Dhaka, Bangladesh, but with research responsibilities across Asia, Africa and the Pacific. Only short-listed candidates will be notified.
