CIPA PRESS RELEASE: OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS FROM THE LEVY ON TECHNICAL DEVICES FUND
The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) is inviting Batswana, organizations operating in Botswana and Government Departments to submit application for Grants from the Levy on Technical Devices Fund.
The Levy on Technical Devices is a tax collected by BURS on behalf of CIPA, on all purchases of devices that are capable of copying creative and artistic works such as music, architectural works, literary works, photographs and films.
Devices that this Levy is collected from include cameras, photocopiers, scanners blank disks and smartphones among others. T
he objective of the Levy on Technical Devices Fund is to assist with the development of capacity, quality and diversity of the creative industry, enhance awareness on Copyright matters, offer support for law enforcement initiatives, contribute towards conserving Botswana Culture within the creative works, and assist in any other area not mentioned above, that develops the creative industry.
Applicants are invited to submit proposals for projects that are in line with the fund's objectives to be funded from the Fund.
The Registrar General of CIPA, Mr C Masena said of the open call, 'The Creative Industry in Botswana is still at infancy, and one of our key objectives at CIPA is to see this industry develop to first world standards, and create employment especially for the youth of Botswana.'
Since the inception of the Fund, a total of 2 open calls have been held, with the first one funding 4 projects, and the second one, whose recipients will be announced later this month, funding 12 projects.
Applications can be submitted at CIPA offices in Gaborone, Francistown, Maun and Serowe.
The deadline for submitting applications is 8 January 2016.
