Business Development Manager

Overview of role


  • The Business Development Manager is responsible for executing the Botswana Members’ and Employers’ development strategy.
  • The Business Development Manager reports directly to the Head of Botswana.
  • To be responsible for the delivery of business development initiatives and innovations targeting private and public corporate and government including operational duties.
  • To be responsible for the line management of the Corporate Relations Executive.

Job description


  • To design and implement effective employer relationships and member engagement programmes in Botswana by undertaking research and developing a database of all approved employers.
  • To effectively engage with employers by promoting Approved employer schemes and ensure eligible employers obtain Approved Employer Status.
  • To successfully engage with members and Approved employers by identifying and addresses their training and development needs.
  • To manage and facilitate the events such as thought leadership, CPD events etc.
  • To undertake proactive initiatives to improve conversion rates for affiliates to become Amembers.
  • To collaborate with other members of staff to undertake research, share experiences and expertise on member initiatives whilst ensuring effective management of the members’ lounge and member’s enquiries services.
  • To monitor departmental income and expenditure and prepare departmental plans and financial reports for by the Head of Botswana.
  • To effectively line manage the Corporate Relations Executive ensuring their ongoing development and progression.
  • This list is not exhaustive and you may be required to undertake other reasonable requests as dictated by the Head of Botswana.

Requirements, Education and Experience


  • Possess a university degree or equivalent in marketing or business
  • Demonstrate a proven track record in a business relationship/business development or marketing role gained in a customer focused environment and possess proven and effective long term relationships skills with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of developing and implementing successful marketing initiatives and/or business plans within a defined budget and resources
  • Demonstrate excellent spoken and written communication skills and with a proven ability to present to high level stakeholders in a confident and mature manner
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of strong market research and analytical skills and an ability to prepare concise reports on research findings
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively manage internal and external customers
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including Word (particularly mail merge functions), Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Access.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, work in a team with a willingness to support colleagues during times of demand and readily contributing to the development of yourself and your colleagues, under pressure and own initiative, and to close a sale
  • Holder of a clean driving licence
