Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The selected intern will work directly in the HR team of UN Women. He/she will work on specific communications/ internal marketing projects to help improve access to information and the image or 'branding' of the HR team and function in the Organization.
Aims of the Internship:
- Learn the structure and work of the organization;
- Provide exposure to working in an international, multi-cultural setting;
- Develop familiarity with Human Resources in a UN agency;
- Experience project management, teamwork and independent analysis;
- Gain practical experience in developing communications/ marketing pieces

Duties and Responsibilities
|
The HR Communications intern will support the HR team in one or more of the below ongoing projects:
Revamping UN Women Employment Page:
- Research and analyze employment/ career pages of comparable organizations
- Develop proposal for UN Women's employment page based on analysis
- Support the HR Specialists by developing content for the website. This will include professional level communications/ marketing pieces such as informative documents and files, video, photo and audio content.
- Draft communication materials and edit/ proofread documents for the website.
- Collaborate with Web Manager to edit website/ upload new content and ensure required formatting
Review and improvement to HR intranet pages (SharePoint):
- Review existing pages. Identify outdated or irrelevant documents, links and details.
- Propose and help develop new content for the HR intranet pages in order to 're-brand' the HR team of UN Women
- Ensure consistency in terms of formatting and presentation throughout the intranet pages
- Work with ICT, KM and Communications colleagues to develop user-friendly and interactive intranet pages
- Develop communications and marketing materials

Required Skills and Experience
|
Education:
- The intern must have studies in corporate communications, marketing or other similar subject at the university level.
Language:
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
- Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantage
Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women.

Note:
In July 2010, the United nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
