Organizational Setting and Reporting
  • The Climate Change Support Team (CCST) supports the Secretary-General in his efforts to advance the climate agenda. As part of the Secretary-General's Five-Year
  • Action Agenda, addressing climate change continues to be a priority area.
  • On 23 September 2014 the Secretary-General will host a Climate Summit in New York, as part of a global effort to mobilize action and ambition on climate change. The
  • Secretary-General is inviting to the Summit Heads of State and Government to the Summit along with business, finance, civil society and local leaders.
  • CCST is seeking interns for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension, pending the needs of the team. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their cover note. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship for both themselves and the receiving Office.
  • The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
  • Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the CCST.
Responsibilities
CCST is looking for interns to support the Communications Team;
responsibilities may include:
  • Support implementation of climate change communications strategy to publicize UN work on climate change and sustainable development;
  • Contribute to the drafting and preparation of time-bound information products such as
media kits, press releases, the un.org/climatechange website and other promotional materials including undertaking research, drafting, obtaining clearances and finalizing texts and editing
copy, including website copy.
  • Support other preparations for the Summit including but not limited to logistics and preparing materials for journalists.
  • Assist in the content and maintenance of information for the UN's climate change website.
  • Other tasks as needed included accompanying journalists to interviews

Education
We are looking for applicants with a background in communications, environmental affairs, international relations, political science, social science or related fields.
To qualify for consideration for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
(1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(2) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
(3) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2) above;
(4) Candidates who are selected, must commence the internship programme either prior to graduation or within one year of graduation from an academic programme as described in (1) and (2).
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However they are encouraged to list all work experiences in the personal history profile (PHP).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme.
Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of an additional official UN language
is an asset.
