Job Summary
To manage the mining operations and maintenance functions, and ensure implementation of objectives within the framework of the department’s strategic plan, legal requirements and best mining engineering principles.

Requirements

Minimum requirements

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
• 8 years post qualification mining experience of which 3 should have been at Mining Engineer level.
• Open Pit Blasting Licence
• Project Management training
• Middle Management Development Program training
• Computer Literacy in MS Office suite including MS Projects will be an added advantage
• Experience in mine planning software (eg Datamine, Whittle, GEMS, etc) will be an added advantage

Key Effectiveness Areas

• Interprets operational requirements and integrates with discipline based financial needs to ensure availability of financial resources to meet business objectives.
• Responsible for, approves and monitors the utilization of allocated funds to enable the attainment of functional objectives.
• Contributes to the development and implements the mining strategy to meet the operations medium and long term plans.
• Analyses trends in the mining arena, assessing their possible impact on the mining strategy and takes appropriate action.
• Directs and coordinates the development of the mines operational plans to meet key objectives.
• Develops and sets mining production targets and standards for the mining operations team and monitors compliance.
• Manages and directs the deployment of resources to optimize the efficiency of the operation.
• Creates an enabling environment to motivate and encourage the search for and trial of new ideas and technologies to enhance and improve the mining processes and efficiencies.
• Develops mining knowledge acquisition and application capability to ensure long term viability and growth of the mining processes and operations, including the identification and implementation of research and development projects and supporting skill development.
• Develops systems and structures required for the identification of industry best practices and for the adoption and maintenance of suitable mining procedures and standards to continuously improve efficiency and technical excellence and ensure corporate governance.
• Initiates, monitors and controls short term projects to address challenges within functional sphere and ensure seamless interface with project functions for attainment of desired results.
• Identifies and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/ requirements.
• Coordinates & manages the Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures in area of
• Manages subordinates’ key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
• Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements in area of responsibility
